COVID. Lockdowns. Conspiracy theories. Godless agendas. Anti-Christian legislation. Demonstrations. Riots. Wars. Natural disasters.
It seems that from every side the world is shouting at us to pay attention to what the devil is doing.
For many of us, there is more of the same on the personal front: health challenges, work challenges, financial challenges, family challenges.
It is all too easy to get caught up in the fear, anger, and negativity.
In the midst of it all, I believe God is saying, “Change your focus!”
I’m reminded of the story of Elisha and his servant in 2 Kings 6. Elisha had been hearing from the Lord what the king of Syria was plotting, and reporting it to the king of Israel. This made the king of Syria pretty upset, and when he learned that Elisha was behind it, he sent a massive force of soldiers and horsemen down to capture him. (It always amuses me that he felt it necessary to send such an army against just one guy – surely an unwilling acknowledgement of the power of Elisha’s God.)
When Elisha and his servant woke next morning, the servant could see only the forces that were assembled against them, and he was terrified. Elisha, however, had a different focus. He prayed for his servant’s eyes to be opened, and when he did the servant could see the far greater forces of God.
So it is for us. We need to open our spiritual eyes and focus on the things of God, not the things of the enemy.
For that change of focus to be effective, it requires a change of position. When we look from the natural world to the spiritual, the natural things still seem big and solid and impenetrable and the things of the spirit seem ephemeral. Even if we know that the spiritual things are there, it can be difficult to see them as stronger than the natural forces. But when we step into the world of the spirit, that is reversed. Suddenly all the natural things seem ephemeral, and the things of the spirit are solid and real.
The Word of God tells us that we are seated in heavenly places in Christ. That is our spiritual position, and we need to start seeing things from our spiritual position rather than from our natural position.
COVID did not take God by surprise. Neither did any of the godless agendas currently being played out in our world. He knew before the world began that they would come about at this time in history, and He knew exactly what He intended to do about it. No matter how things look in the natural, He is still on the throne, and HE WINS!
We need to stop giving the devil glory by focusing on what he is doing and bemoaning how bad things are in this world. We should be getting excited because God is about to move in a way and on a scale that has never been seen before in the history of mankind. This is an amazing time to be alive, and the darker the world gets the brighter God’s glory will shine.
Change your focus!
